Interactive musical mannequin. Penthouse Mouse 2012.
L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival.

Moth Design asked us to create an interactive sound installation for Penthouse Mouse 2012.

We designed an interactive mannequin that uses sensors and microphones embedded inside her to create and play music.

Visitors simply walked up and made beautiful music by touching the mannequin and blowing into her ears.

Retailers and visual merchandisers are now able to focus music on specific areas of their stores, and tune the music and information to the character of their clothing ranges and needs of their customers.

The mannequins easily scale from playing music and providing information about products via integrated speakers, to large scale immersive and interactive surround sound musical instruments for events and ambient marketing campaigns.

We collaborated with fashion label Where Lovers Lie, combining music, visual merchandising and fashion to create a musical instrument that is controlled by smart textiles.

Visitors squeeze the interactive fabric which then plays music inside a computer that is connected to the fabric.

Watching people play the installation at our launch was amazing. People kept going back for more – learning the instrument and becoming more sophisticated in their music making and we’re talking about people who aren’t musically trained. It’s really fun, intuitive and simple.

It changes customers from passive browsers into active creators of exciting and memorable retail experiences.

The experience takes visitors on a playful sensory adventure that increases brand awareness and builds powerful emotional connections with products, brands and retail environments and it’s a whole lot of fun.

The joy and childlike wonder on everyone’s faces was priceless. People were coming up and telling us how inspired they were by the installation, I overheard one guy say “I have to have one more go before I leave”.

A comment on Facebook says it all. ‘That was amazing, I saw many collaborations during the night and your build of samples ensured it wasn’t annoying over time. The dress, the mannequin, was also impressive. Well done!’
